Modesty in Modern Wedding Dresses
Wedding gowns have traditionally been elaborate, fairly modest dresses. White was a symbol of purity, indicating that the bride was unspoiled. We’ve since moved away from that idea, although white still looks lovely on beautiful brides! However, many wedding gowns now feature plunging necklines, sleeveless bodices, and perhaps even short hemlines.
Many brides still desire modest gowns, depending on their religion, culture, or personal preference. Unfortunately, designers are trending toward revealing dresses that make some brides feel uncomfortable.
At Lotus Threads, we firmly believe that every bride deserves to feel glamorous and beautiful in her unique way — no matter her religion, race, age, or culture! After all, her wedding day is often one of the very few times in a bride’s life she gets to take center stage.
For example, members of the Mormon Church must meet temple requirements in their wedding gowns. They’re required to wear a cap-sleeved undergarment beneath their dress. The gown must have a full-length skirt and sleeves long enough to cover the undergarment, with no see-through sections or elaborate bedazzlements. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be stylish and uniquely gorgeous! For example, temple-compliant gowns may be covered in lace, which is timelessly beautiful and elegant.
Inspired by Victorian couture, many bridal gowns feature long sleeves, structured bodices, and crew necklines. These create a feminine, sophisticated silhouette that remains modest. Intricate beadwork and lace make all the difference, adding a lovely glamour that suits each bride’s personality!

Sadly, many bridal designers have forgotten that some women prefer greater coverage. But at Lotus Threads, we design gowns with every potential bride in mind — including those who seek modesty in their bridal couture.
We have crafted wedding dresses that meet temple requirements while creating a gorgeous, detailed aesthetic.
Every bride should feel and look absolutely beautiful!
